Basketball Recap: Smith Valley Bulldogs vs. Sage Ridge Scorpions

After losing to the Sage Ridge Scorpions the last time they met, the Smith Valley Bulldogs decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Smith Valley walked away with a 47-35 win over the Scorpions on Monday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Smith Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison Slater, who scored 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Slater has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan York, who scored 14 points.

When it comes to explaining why Sage Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Sophia Soran. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 42.9% of Sage Ridge's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Smith Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-10 record this season. As for Sage Ridge, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-4.

Smith Valley will head out on the road to face off against the Serpents at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nevada (Mineral County is ranked 98th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 78th). As for Sage Ridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Muckers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Virginia City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Saturday.
