Athens has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. After both having extra time off, they and the Canton Eagles will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canton took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Athens, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Athens finally turned things around against Kemp on Tuesday. They blew past the Yellowjackets 3-0.
Athens never let Kemp on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-23, 25-19.
Athens can attribute much of their success to Lilly Mycke, who had eight digs and five aces, and Chloe Coker, who had five aces and three digs.
Athens was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Canton unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against Lindale, falling 3-0. Canton has struggled against Lindale recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
The final score came out to 25-14, 25-17, 25-17.
Canton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mallory Alexander, who had ten digs and 19 assists, and Jadie Jones, who had seven digs. Alexander is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 18 or more in the last 18 games she's played.
Athens' victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-20. As for Canton, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-18.
