Flag Football Game Preview: Tesoro Titans vs. Newbury Park Panthers

The Tesoro Titans are taking a road trip to challenge the Newbury Park Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tesoro's defense has only allowed 12 points per game this season, so Newbury Park's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Tesoro took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They snuck past San Juan Hills with an 18-14 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Titans' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Stallions are ranked 354th).

Tesoro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Chloe Gillis out in front who threw for 347 yards and two TDs while completing 77.3% of her passes. That's the most passing yards Gillis has posted since back in September. 105 of Gillis' passing yards were hauled in by Lily Salmon, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Another reason for the win was Tesoro's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Kayla Siebold was the leader with two. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one sack the last 14 times she's played.

Meanwhile, Newbury Park came tearing into Tuesday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.8 points), and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 39-20 victory over the Lancers. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their 13-point performance the matchup before.

Tesoro's record now sits at 16-9. As for Newbury Park, their record is now 15-7.
