Basketball Game Preview: West Burlington Falcons vs. Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves

The West Burlington Falcons will venture away from home to square off against the Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Burlington knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 16 games -- so hopefully Winfield-Mt. Union likes a good challenge.

It was a Battle of the Birds when West Burlington faced off against Central Lee on Friday. West Burlington came out on top against Central Lee by a score of 78-65. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Hawks are ranked 187th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Winfield-Mt. Union took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 63-34 victory over Columbus. The Wolves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Winfield-Mt. Union has also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for West Burlington, their win bumped their record up to 14-2.

West Burlington strolled past Winfield-Mt. Union when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 54-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Burlington since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
