The Los Lunas Tigers will head out to take on the Centennial Hawks at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Los Lunas is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Los Lunas heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Friday. They fell just short of Cleveland by a score of 6-4. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Jaslene Duran was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Jacelyn Baca was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Centennial faced Mayfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Hawks came up short against the Trojans, falling 16-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Centennial saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Sanchez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Another was Addie Moccia, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 17-11. As for Los Lunas, their loss dropped their record down to 21-6.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Los Lunas hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Los Lunas might still be hurting after the 11-5 defeat they got from Centennial in their previous meeting back in February of 2020. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
