Baseball Game Preview: Catskill Cats vs. Saugerties Sawyers

The Catskill Cats will head out to square off against the Saugerties Sawyers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Saugerties took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Catskill, who comes in off a win.

While Catskill's victory against Watervliet wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cats narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cannoneers 5-4. The Cats haven't had any issues with the Cannoneers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Will Cummings made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Catskill is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Cummings was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Cummings wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was James Story, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Travis Bulich also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Saugerties entered their contest against Wallkill on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Sawyers came up short against the Panthers, falling 15-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Sawyers were not able to get on the board.

Saugerties' defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Catskill, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Catskill might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Saugerties in their previous meeting back in April of 2015. Can the Cats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
