FLOWER MOUND, Texas -
Coppell (Texas) kept up a steady attack all game long to beat Marcus (Flower Mound, Texas), 41-3, on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown in the first quarter, the Cowboys led 20-3 at the half.
Coppell expanded its lead to 31 points entering the fourth quarter. CHS scored two times in the third, including once on a
Skyler Bonneau touchdown pass to
Charles West.
Brandon Rice was the top performer for the Cowboys. The sophomore running back ran for three touchdowns.
Led by
Solomon Thomas, Coppell came in allowing an average of 19.3 points per game this season. CHS held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Marauders well below the 11.3 points it had been averaging per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Cowboys came away with a 31-0 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Marcus, which notched a 13-6 victory over Lewisville in its previous outing. With the win Coppell extended its winning streak to three games.
Marcus (2-6) goes up against Flower Mound in a 5A Region I District 5 game matchup next week, while Coppell (6-1) locks horns with Ryan also in a 5A Region I District 5 game.
