Volleyball Recap: East Palestine Takes a Loss

East Palestine lost against Cardinal Mooney back in September of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Bulldogs lost 3-0 to the Cardinals. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

While East Palestine was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Cardinal Mooney's winning margin in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-22, 26-24.

Destiney Burtyk paced East Palestine's offense, picking up seven kills. Burtyk got some help from Kennedy Andre and her 13 assists. Burtyk was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Cardinal Mooney found their leader in sophomore Genesis Alvarez, who had 22 digs. Those 22 digs set a new season-high mark for Alvarez.

East Palestine's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Cardinal Mooney, their record now sits at 3-5.

Looking ahead, East Palestine will take on Mohawk Area at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Cardinal Mooney, they will challenge Heartland Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
