Volleyball Game Preview: Falls Lake Firebirds vs. Cape Hatteras Hurricanes

Falls Lake has won five straight games at home, while Cape Hatteras has won five straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The Firebirds will welcome the Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Falls Lake got the win against Jones by a conclusive 3-0.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Falls Lake took every set by at least 13 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-10, 25-12.

Maggie Penn was nothing short of spectacular: she had 23 digs and two aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Penn wasn't the only good servers: Falls Lake was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least seven aces in 21 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Cape Hatteras had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They blew past the Trojans 3-0.

Falls Lake's victory bumped their record up to 23-4. As for Cape Hatteras, their win bumped their record up to 13-5.
