Preview: Russell Red Devils vs. Greenup County Musketeers
The Russell Red Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Greenup County Musketeers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Russell has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 341 points over their last five contests.
Russell won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They were beaten by Boyd County 93-65. While losing is never fun, Russell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while Boyd County is ranked 18th).
Despite the loss, Russell had strong showings from Caleb Rimmer, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds, and Elijah Neel, who scored 17 points. Neel is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Kaczmarcyk, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, Greenup County scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They strolled past Raceland with points to spare, taking the game 76-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Russell's loss dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Greenup County, they pushed their record up to 13-11 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Russell ended up a good deal behind Greenup County in their previous matchup back in January, losing 66-49. Can Russell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
