Basketball Recap: Hearne Comes Up Short

Hearne was the 57-52 winner over Mumford when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Hearne Eagles fell 46-38 to the Mumford Mustangs on Friday. The match marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Hearne lost, don't look at Dereion Mitchell. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on ten points and 18 boards. Another player making a difference was Kellen Bowser, who posted nine points.

Hearne's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 10-1 and their overall record down to 23-5. As for Mumford, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hearne will venture away from home to square off against Somerville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Somerville: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Hearne has snatched up eight consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season. As for Mumford, they will head out to face off against Iola at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
