Baseball Game Preview: Horton Chargers vs. Marais des Cygnes Valley Trojans

The Horton Chargers will face off against the Marais des Cygnes Valley Trojans on Monday. Horton is looking for their season's first victory.

Horton fell victim to Pleasant Ridge and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Rams, falling 15-0.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marais des Cygnes Valley). Everything went their way against Oswego on Thursday as Marais des Cygnes Valley made off with an 18-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Trojans.

Dalton Lingenfelter made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Traver, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ricky Traver, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Marais des Cygnes Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oswego only posted an OBP of .312.

The victory got Marais des Cygnes Valley back to even at 2-2. As for Horton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Horton took their win against Marais des Cygnes Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-5. Will Horton repeat their success, or does Marais des Cygnes Valley has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
