Softball Recap: Gibault Catholic Triumphs

Gibault Catholic took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Roxana, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Gibault Catholic Hawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Roxana Shells on Wednesday, sneaking past 16-14. This was payback for the Hawks, who suffered a 14-7 loss the last time these two teams met.

Sophie Winkeler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Claire Kessler was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Lauren Lanham, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Gibault Catholic's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gibault Catholic will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Marquette Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Roxana, they will take on Staunton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
