Softball Recap: Johnston Takes Down Ranked Toll Gate

Johnston faced Toll Gate in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Titans. This was payback for the Panthers, who suffered a 3-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Haley Boudreau spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Bella Boudreau was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Johnston pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Toll Gate, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Johnston will host Ponaganset at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Toll Gate, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Coventry at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
