Baseball Recap: Lawrence County Comes Up Short

If Lawrence County was riding high fresh off their 11-1 takedown of Marshall County on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats fell just short of the Loretto Mustangs by a score of 9-8 on Friday. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Mustangs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Alex Bedford was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off two home runs and three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Lawrence County is 8-3 when Bedford posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Hudson Mattox also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Lawrence County dropped their record down to 13-12 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Loretto, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-13 record this season.

While Lawrence County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
