Volleyball Recap: North Haven Nighthawks vs. Branford Hornets

North Haven was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Branford Hornets, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.

North Haven was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-18, 25-11.

Olivia Jagiello paced North Haven's offense, picking up five kills. Jagiello got some help from Guilianna Mesner and her eight assists. Mesner also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Ella Couture, each putting up two.

Julianne Henkel produced another solid performance getting 16 digs, nine kills, four aces, and one block for Branford. Henkel is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abbey Mangler, who had 12 digs and six kills.

North Haven's loss dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Branford, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. North Haven is set to face off against their familiar foe Hamden at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Branford will take on rival Sheehan at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
