Baseball Recap: Depew Has No Trouble Against Cheektowaga

Depew owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Cheektowaga Chargers with a sharp 7-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-6 on Monday.

The result came thanks to Jeff Nawojski's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Justin Refermat, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Fryling, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

Depew was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cheektowaga only posted a batting average of .053.

Depew now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Cheektowaga, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Depew will challenge Bishop Timon-St. Jude at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cheektowaga, they will take on Pioneer at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
