League recap: Pahranagat Valley tops Tonopah to extend winning streak

IV Southern (8 Man) recap Oct. 23, 2012

Pahranagat Valley extended the longest winning streak in IV Southern (8 Man) this week by beating Tonopah, 52-6. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Panthers.

Spring Mountain took down Beatty 70-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Marcus Thomas threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 92 yards in the win.

Pahranagat Valley's dynamic duo of Austin Poulsen and Wade Leavitt proved tough for the Muckers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Poulsen threw for 167 yards and three touchdowns and Leavitt had 82 yards receiving. Tyson Sparrow helped Pahranagat Valley's passing attack out by catching four balls for 43 yards.

Tyler Higbee made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Panthers beat Tonopah. The 5-foot-9 senior recorded one fumble.

Bruce Travis-Collins was the most productive running back in the league this week. In eight carries, he ran for 167 yards as the Eagles topped the Muckers. Ashley Christmas also contributed to the rushing game with 98 yards on the ground.

5-foot-9 quarterback Thomas of Spring Mountain is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1099. He has also thrown 20 touchdowns. On the ground, Tonopah's Seth Littlefield has rushed for 1117 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Mason Stirling. The Pahranagat Valley star has 18 catches for 374 yards.

The marquee game in IV Southern (8 Man) this week will be the clash between the Panthers and the Hornets. Pahranagat Valley comes into the matchup ranked first in the state, while Beatty ranks 14th.

Round Mountain's Serjio Chavez needs only 15 yards against Indian Springs next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Chavez has rushed for 985 yards on 90 carries so far this year.

Aaron Masden's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 70 points on the Hornets. Thomas in the win.
