Soccer Game Preview: Gilmer vs. Union County

The Gilmer Bobcats will take on the Union County Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilmer is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.6 goals per game this season.

Union County will be up against a hot Gilmer team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Bobcats never let Ringgold get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Monday. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Gilmer's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 169th, while Ringgold are ranked 372nd).

Yenifer Lopez was the driving force of Gilmer's attack as she scored both of Gilmer's goals, bringing her season total up to 22 goals.

Meanwhile, Union County's game two weeks ago was all tied up 1-1 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They won by a goal and slipped past North Hall 2-1. That's two games straight that Union County have won by just one goal.

Union County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 12 goals over those four matchups. As for Gilmer, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Everything went Gilmer's way against Union County in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Gilmer made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
