Texas A&M recruits support move to SEC

Although Texas A&M's football future appears up in the air, the possible move of the Aggies to the SEC already has recruits buzzing.

And early on, it appears they are taking the news very well.

Klein Forest (Houston, Texas) quarterback Matt Davis, the nation's No. 4 combo passer and No. 73 recruit overall, says he and fellow Aggie recruits are looking forward to the program's rumored move from the Big 12 to the SEC.

"I speak for our class when I say we're excited," Davis said in a phone interview on Sunday afternoon.

Davis, who scored 38 total touchdowns and racked up nearly 3,000 yards of offense as a sophomore before an injury-plagued junior season, committed to Texas A&M in the spring and immediately gave the Aggies a blue-chip recruit behind center.



He said he's been hearing rumors of A&M's potential move to the SEC since the start of the summer.

"I first heard about it, as just an idea, probably in June," he said. "I heard talk, but it really heated up the past couple of weeks."

Davis said that playing SEC competition is something that has always interested him.

"I've always wanted to play in the SEC," he said. "With us getting a chance to play in the SEC West, which in my opinion is the toughest conference in the NCAA, I'm excited.

"I want to play against that speed of LSU, that strength of Alabama, the schemes of Auburn. I look forward to it."

Davis said that he heard from fellow Aggie commit Bralon Addison on Saturday, and both have been inundated by Aggies fans reaching out to them about the potential move.



With Davis, Addison, and running back Trey Williams, the Aggies would be well-equipped to handle the speed and athleticism of SEC defenses.

"Our 2012 class, we have a lot of offensive weapons," Davis said. "Look in the backfield with Trey, and Bralon in the slot. Trent (Momon) and Jaevon (Richardson), Corey (Thompson) on the outside. On the offensive line, we have (Mike) Matthews, Kimo (Tipoti), Adrian (Bellard). We have a lot of good players."

The Aggies also have some impressive defensive recruits verbally committed, including Darion Monroe, a defensive back from East St. John (Reserve, La.), in the heart of SEC country.

Moore also said he'd welcome a move to the SEC for A&M.

"If we were to go to the SEC, I'd love it," said Monroe, who chose the Aggies over Arizona and Georgia Tech. "I always had dreams of playing in the SEC."

While Monroe would love playing against his home state LSU Tigers, Davis says that A&M's move cannot come at the expense of the Aggies' rivalry game with Texas.



"That is a great reason I chose to come to A&M," he said. "I want to play against Texas. That was definitely something that is such a big deal. I want to play them."
