Basketball Recap: Berry Skates Past West Mecklenburg with Ease

Berry won the last time they faced West Mecklenburg and things went their way on Friday too. The Berry Cardinals simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the West Mecklenburg Hawks 56-25. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 29-5.

Berry's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zahnia Long, who posted 19 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Long has scored at least a third of Berry's points. Mariah Byers was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Berry moved to 4-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for West Mecklenburg, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berry will take on Palisades in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Berry has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. West Mecklenburg and Chambers will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Mecklenburg is facing Chambers at the right time seeing as Chambers is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
