Softball Recap: Braintree Comes Up Short

Braintree extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 9-6. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-10 heartbreaker at the hands of the Needham Rockets. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Needham, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 14-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games.

For Needham's part, Kaitlyn Cheng was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was Cheng's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Liv Kirschner, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Braintree will welcome Oliver Ames at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Needham, they will host Walpole at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
