Baseball Recap: Hastings Comes Up Short

Hastings extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 1-10 in the process. They came up short against the Holland Dutch, falling 7-1. The Saxons were not able to make up for their defeat to the Dutch from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Tyler Frazer was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

As for Holland, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-7. They not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since May 23, 2024 (when they won 9-2).

On Holland's side, Cody Rozema made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Rozema a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabe Bos, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jay Cantu, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Hastings will head out to face off against Covenant Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.67 runs per game on average), something the Saxons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Holland, they will challenge Hamilton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
