Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Charleston Collegiate

Charleston Collegiate entered their tilt with Cross on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Cross Stingrays by a score of 66-59. Given the Sundevils' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Stingrays are ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Charleston Collegiate's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Clayton Smith, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 8.4 rebounds per game. Grant Morrison was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 assists.

Charleston Collegiate was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cross only posted seven assists.

Cross' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Luke Fulda, who almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine boards. Fulda continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zach Nicastro, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 17 points.

Charleston Collegiate is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Cross, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Charleston Collegiate didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 57-45 victory against Faith Christian on the 19th. Cross and Concord Christian will round out the year against one another at at 5:00 p.m. on December 27th. Cross is facing Concord Christian at the right time seeing as Concord Christian is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
