Basketball Game Preview: Walnut Grove Wildcats vs. Greenville Lions

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Walnut Grove Wildcats duke it out with the Greenville Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday... The timing is sure in Walnut Grove's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Greenville has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Last Tuesday, Walnut Grove was able to grind out a solid win over Denison, taking the game 71-64.

Walnut Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Parker Evanson led the charge by going 6 of 10 en route to 18 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The game was Evanson's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Byron Scott, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine assists.

Meanwhile, Greenville lost to Melissa at home by a 60-43 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 601st, while the Cardinals are ranked 118th).

Greenville's defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Walnut Grove, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.
