Recap: Lemon Bay Manta Rays vs. Aubrey Rogers Patriots
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Lemon Bay Manta Rays can now relate to. They fell 60-49 to the Patriots on Wednesday. Lemon Bay was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Aubrey Rogers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played two weeks ago.
When it comes to explaining why Lemon Bay lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maya Collins. Despite the final result, she scored 31 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Collins has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kylie Jones, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Lemon Bay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aubrey Rogers only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Aubrey Rogers' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angelina Insana, who scored 22 points along with four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Insana has scored at least a third of Aubrey Rogers' points. Madelyn Hamisch was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Lemon Bay now has a losing record at 12-13. As for Aubrey Rogers, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.
Lemon Bay will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Lakewood at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. Lakewood will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Lemon Bay surely won't give up without a fight. As for Aubrey Rogers, they will square off against Gateway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gateway focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday.
