Basketball Recap: Briar Woods Skates Past Independence with Ease

There's no place like home for Briar Woods, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Independence 58-27. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while Independence are ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Briar Woods' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brianna Zaher, who posted 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Nina Stummer was another key player, putting up ten points and six boards.

Briar Woods was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Briar Woods pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Independence, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-12.

Briar Woods will challenge Riverside at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Independence, they will host Potomac Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
