Baseball Game Preview: Damien Monarchs vs. Maryknoll Spartans

Damien hasn't had much luck against Maryknoll recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Damien Monarchs will host the Maryknoll Spartans at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Damien has three straight victories, Maryknoll has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Damien will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Mid-Pacific Institute, who they had gone 0-8 against in their eight prior meetings. Damien won by a run and slipped past Mid-Pacific Institute 3-2. The three-run effort marked the Monarchs' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Meanwhile, Maryknoll didn't have quite enough to beat Pac-Five on Tuesday and fell 4-3.

Damien's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Maryknoll, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Damien couldn't quite get it done against Maryknoll in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can Damien avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
