Basketball Game Preview: Boyd County Spartans vs. Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades

The Boyd County Spartans will face off against the Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 13 consecutive losses dating back to last season for Boyd County and three for Chambers/Wheeler Central.

Boyd County is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Ainsworth on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Boyd County was beaten by Ainsworth 65-25. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-9.

Boyd County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Elly Zeisler, who posted eight points and eight boards, and Destiny Bennett, who scored three points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Bennett a new career-high in assists (four). Gracen Eckert also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Boyd County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Chambers/Wheeler Central was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 47-42 to Stuart.

Boyd County will need focus on slowing down Ella Moses, one of several Chambers/Wheeler Central players who made an impact when they last played. She had 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lizzie Gartner, who put up 12 points.

Boyd County's defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Chambers/Wheeler Central, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

Boyd County didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Chambers/Wheeler Central when the teams last played back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 29-25 victory. Will Boyd County repeat their success, or does Chambers/Wheeler Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
