Baseball Recap: Calhoun City Comes Up Short

Calhoun City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 15-2 to the South Pontotoc Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 14-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Jay Moore made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs while going 2-for-2. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Calhoun City is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-13 otherwise.

Calhoun City's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for South Pontotoc, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season.

While Calhoun City had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
