Game recap: Santa Fe High School Football Team beats Pioneer

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. - Santa Fe (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.) grabbed the lead when Christian Lara ran for a touchdown with 11:00 left in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat Pioneer (Whittier, Calif.) 42-31 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured five lead swaps.

The Titans pulled ahead on a rushing touchdown, and subsequently went into halftime leading 24-20. The Chiefs scored the winning points with a Lara touchdown run that came in the fourth quarter.

Despite scoring eight points in the third, Santa Fe still trailed by 3 points going into the fourth quarter. But 14 points in the fourth helped SF pull out the victory.

The Santa Fe Springs school's standout player in the win was Lara. The sophomore quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for three touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.

Alvaro Vargas played well for Pioneer. The junior ran for one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.



Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 42-3 win for the Chiefs.

The win was a nice bounce back for Santa Fe, which lost to La Serna last week, 31-3.
