Newsome waltzed into their match on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Their defense stepped up to hand the Wharton Wildcats a 1-0 shutout. Given Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 144th, while the Wildcats are ranked 326th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newsome's one-goal win came courtesy of Carter Chaney, who's now up to 12 this season.

Newsome pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 30 goals over those six contests. As for Wharton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-7-1.

Newsome will challenge Alonso at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Alonso is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.2 goals per game this season. Wharton has already played their next game, a 3-1 victory against East Bay on the 16th.
