Newberry waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the University Christian Christians.
Luke Hartenstein tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brycen Ochs was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Aiden Michaux was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Newberry's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for University Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Newberry and University Christian should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Newberry will challenge Dunnellon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 222 places (194 vs. 416). Newberry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season. Meanwhile, University Christian (ranked 73rd) will meet St. Petersburg Catholic (ranked 229th) at 6:00 p.m. on March 17th.
