Volleyball Recap: Enochs Eagles vs. Downey Knights

Enochs was the 3-1 winner over Downey when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. Enochs fell 3-1 to Downey on Thursday.

Enochs started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 23-25, 30-27, 25-19, 25-16.

Andre Suico paced Enochs' offense, picking up 13 kills. Suico got some help from Nathan Hosain and his 20 assists. Suico also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Miles Seiferer, racking up three apiece.

Downey found their leader in freshman Mateo Lewis, who had 12 digs and two aces. That's the most aces Lewis has posted over his last nine contests. Miguel Garcia Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as he served his first ace of the season.

Enochs' defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-13. As for Downey, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
