Basketball Recap: Model Secondary School for the Deaf Comes Up Short

Model Secondary School for the Deaf played a tough match on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 46-16 defeat at the hands of the Leonardtown Raiders. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-7.

Stella Ciulla was Model Secondary School for the Deaf's leading scorer, having posted seven points. Ciulla also led the team in assists with three. Nirveli Smith held things down on the boards with eight rebounds.

Among those leading the charge was Gretchen Fleck, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 12 points and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Baldwin, who posted seven points and three steals.

Model Secondary School for the Deaf's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-4. As for Leonardtown, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Model Secondary School for the Deaf didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-20 defeat against Smith Jewish Day School on the 12th. As for Leonardtown, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-33 win against Chopticon on the 13th.
