Softball Recap: Lakeland Chiefs vs. Riverside Vikings

Lakeland had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-11 to make it four. They came up short against the Riverside Vikings, falling 13-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-7 back in April.

As for Riverside, their record is now 8-10. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

On Riverside's side, Addie Smith made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Smith was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Mikayla Smith was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Clara Sandly was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
