Basketball Game Preview: Olympia Spartans vs. El Paso-Gridley Titans

Olympia is on a seven-game streak of home losses, El Paso-Gridley a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Monday. The Olympia Spartans will welcome the El Paso-Gridley Titans at 5:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Olympia came up short against PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central and fell 46-34. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 477th, while the Bluejays are ranked 63rd).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask El Paso-Gridley). They strolled past Fieldcrest with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 68-52. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Titans as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Olympia's loss dropped their record down to 3-21. As for El Paso-Gridley, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.

Olympia lost to El Paso-Gridley at home by a decisive 50-34 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Olympia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
