Basketball Game Preview: Monticello Buckaroo vs. Green River Pirates

The Monticello Buckaroo will take on the Green River Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Monticello knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Green River likes a good challenge.

Monticello is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with an 81-68 victory over Whitehorse on Friday.

Meanwhile, Green River came tearing into Saturday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Cougars 114-29. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 61-8.

Green River's win came from a few key players Monticello will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jason Hernandez, who went 10 for 22 en route to 29 points along with eight assists and five steals. Those five steals gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rolando Anguiano, who went 10 of 15 on his way to 25 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Green River was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Monticello has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Green River, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5.
