Soccer Game Preview: Marion vs. Carbondale

The Marion Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Carbondale Terriers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Marion is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Belleville East just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 7-0 to the Lancers. Having soared to a lofty eight goals in the game before, Marion's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Carbondale kept a clean sheet against Mt. Vernon on Monday. They put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 7-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Carbondale, who have now won seven games by three goals or more so far this season.

They hit Mt. Vernon with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Sara Schurz (5), Peytn Hickey, and Shelby Dierks.

The win made it two in a row for Carbondale and bumps their season record up to 9-9-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored nine goals over those two contests. As for Marion, their loss dropped their record down to 12-2.

Everything went Marion's way against Carbondale when the teams last played back in April, as Marion made off with a 7-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
