Softball Recap: Carmichaels Starts Season with Victory Against Laurel Highlands

Carmichaels gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Laurel Highlands Mustangs. The Mighty Mikes have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mustangs, too.

Bailey Barnyak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.

At the plate, Carmichaels' victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Payton Plavi, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another was Ke'Lani Chun, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carmichaels will head out to face off against Uniontown at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Laurel Highlands, they will venture away from home to take on Connellsville at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
