St. Joseph extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 9-5 in the process. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the South Plainfield Tigers 2-0. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-7 back in April.

The result came thanks to Richard Zangara's shutout, as he gave up just two hits.

On the hitting side, Luke Palermo was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

As for South Plainfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since April 15th.

On South Plainfield's side, Kevin Penny was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. The dominant performance also gave Penny a new career-low in walks (one).

At the plate, South Plainfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Irizarry, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Coming up, St. Joseph will head out to challenge North Hunterdon at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Plainfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Watchung Hills Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
