Baseball Recap: Monterey Takes a Loss

After soaring to ten runs the game before, Monterey was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They fell just short of the York Institute Dragons by a score of 3-2. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Dragons since on Monday.

Dylan Whitehead was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Monterey is 3-1 when Whitehead posts eight or more strikeouts, but 5-9 otherwise. Whitehead was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Monterey's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for York Institute, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-7.

Monterey has already played their next match, a 4-2 victory against Watertown on the 15th. As for York Institute, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, an 11-1 loss against Smith County on the 16th.
