Softball Game Preview: Wewahitchka Gators vs. Sneads Pirates

The Wewahitchka Gators are taking a road trip to face off against the Sneads Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Wewahitchka has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wewahitchka is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Vernon 18-11 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Gators.

Jayla Clayton was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aubry Bailey, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wewahitchka kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 8.8.

Meanwhile, Sneads came up short against Marianna on Thursday and fell 18-15. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Wewahitchka's victory bumped their record up to 6-16. As for Sneads, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Everything went Wewahitchka's way against Sneads in their previous meeting back in March, as Wewahitchka made off with a 13-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
