Basketball Recap: Matthew Brown's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Academy at Palumbo over Paul Robeson

Academy at Palumbo lost against Paul Robeson back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Academy at Palumbo Griffin lost 71-50 to the Paul Robeson Huskies. While losing is never fun, the Griffin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 572nd, while the Huskies are ranked 219th).

Academy at Palumbo's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Brown, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was William Garwood, who earned 12 points.

It was another big night for Kobe Butler, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds for Paul Robeson. The game was Butler's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Shiheed Rice-Sloan, who scored 20 points and six boards.

Academy at Palumbo's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Paul Robeson, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Academy at Palumbo wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-45 win against Varsity Opponent on the 30th. As for Paul Robeson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-63 defeat against Carver High School of Engineering & Science on the 31st.
