Softball Recap: Goreville Blackcats vs. Meridian Bobcats

Goreville got themselves on the board against Meridian on Friday, but Meridian never followed suit. They didn't even let the Bobcats on the board, marking their second-straight 20-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Blackcats in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won five in a row.

Lydia Kwiatkowski made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Allison Chamness was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Addyson (Addy) Underwood was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Goreville's record is now 2-0. As for Meridian, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Goreville will face off against McCracken County at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Meridian, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Meridian Bobcats challenge Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Anna-Jonesboro will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Meridian surely won't give up without a fight.
