Softball Game Preview: Byron-Bergen Bees vs. Caledonia-Mumford Raiders

The Byron-Bergen Bees will head out to challenge the Caledonia-Mumford Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Byron-Bergen has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Kendall hit Byron-Bergen with a nine-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bees fell 14-9 to the Eagles. The Bees have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Lily Stalica put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and nine unearned) runs off nine hits. Stalica was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lauren Gartz was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Janessa Amesbury, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Caledonia-Mumford was a bit more limited in their matchup on Wednesday. They fell just short of Geneseo by a score of 4-2.

Byron-Bergen now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Caledonia-Mumford, their record is now 4-4.

Byron-Bergen might still be hurting after the 13-7 defeat they got from Caledonia-Mumford when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Bees avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
