Basketball Game Preview: Santa Ynez Pirates vs. Morro Bay Pirates

The Santa Ynez Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Morro Bay Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Santa Ynez is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.3 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Santa Ynez slipped by Righetti 63-62. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Santa Ynez's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lucas Ollenburger, who went 11 of 19 en route to 22 points and seven rebounds. Ikenna Ofiaeli was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards.

Meanwhile, Morro Bay ended up a good deal behind Templeton on Friday and lost 66-50. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1113th, while the Eagles are ranked 529th).

Morro Bay's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Santa Ynez, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.

Everything went Santa Ynez's way against Morro Bay in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as Santa Ynez made off with a 74-53 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Santa Ynez since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
