Preview: Northern Burlington Greyhounds vs. Burlington Township Falcons
Northern Burlington is 2-8 against Burlington Township since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Northern Burlington Greyhounds will head out on the road to challenge the Burlington Township Falcons at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Monday, Northern Burlington was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 62-56 to Bordentown.
Meanwhile, Burlington Township had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Monday. They strolled past Doane Academy with points to spare, taking the game 64-48. Given Burlington Township's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Doane Academy is ranked 339th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Burlington Township found their leader in underclassman Quayd Hendryx, who scored 12 points along with eight assists. That's the first time this season that Hendryx posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Aaron Ferguson, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Northern Burlington's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Burlington Township, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Northern Burlington might still be hurting after the 68-44 loss they got from Burlington Township when the teams last played on January 5th. Can Northern Burlington avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
