Baseball Game Preview: Ventura Cougars vs. Royal Highlanders

The Ventura Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Royal Highlanders at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ventura is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Ventura fell victim to Rio Mesa and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans.

Meanwhile, Royal was able to grind out a solid victory over La Canada on Wednesday, taking the game 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Highlanders.

Royal gave Colton Dunwoody the start and clearly made the right call: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Dunwoody a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Royal's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Parker Visage, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Ventura's defeat dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Royal, their victory bumped their record up to 20-3.

Ventura came out on top in a nail-biter against Royal in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
