Baseball Recap: Columbus Grove Takes a Loss

Columbus Grove had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-4 to make it four. They fell just short of the Fort Jennings Musketeers by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since April 3rd.

As for Fort Jennings, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games.

For Fort Jennings' part, Jarron Swick made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Swick has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Swick wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Evan Ellerbrock, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Calvin Menke was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus Grove will welcome Lima Central Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fort Jennings, they will be playing at home against Bluffton at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Musketeers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
